A quiet spot in the desert, a horse, a burro, a sheep, a goat, pea fowl, genuia fowl, that's my little paradise, surrounded by open space and mountains. You'll find me talking about my days and thoughts of this quiet life.

Trip To Texas:

It was a wonderful trip, so eventful. Part of it will be in little pictures as it's too much to relate in one sitting.

The first night was spent at Quartsite where I tried out my newly installed bed in the pickup camper. I loved looking at the oh so wonderful night sky. The stars are so very bright. My bed was comfy and my dog slept on her bed on the floor. Only problem was headroom and getting in and out.

I took the southerly route and spent the second night in Las Cruses, New Mexico. We stayed in a motel. I was ready for a shower. We were up early and on the road and through El Paso before the morning rush.

The next big event was Marfa.  I loved Marfa, it was like the town I was born in. I drove all through town, up and down the streets and enjoyed the old buildings and churches. I shall return. Then on to a small town close to the border called Presideo. It wasn't much to see but driving about I accidentally crossed the border into Mexico and had to turn around. OH ho, then I almost had to give up my food, got drug sniffed and searched. Finally out of there I headed down 170 which had been sugested by my friend. Very beautiful and rugged country. I was a bit tired to enjoy it fully but there were glimpses of the river that made me want to stop for a swim.

My end goal was to reach a ranch called Terlingua. This is a vast mountainous desert close to Big Bend National Forest, beautiful , with awe inspiring mountains.  Finally at the ranch headquarters I met my e mail friend. The ranch is several buildings. A lodge with a restaurant, nice swimming pool, horse corrals, office, cabins, and campground .

This all set in a valley among some beautiful rocky peaks. Those starry skies set in that frame of mountains , well, just breathtaking.  Kathleen and I had almost identical setups. We slept in our camper tops in the back of our Tundras.

And more to come.

Beautiful description of the countryside. When I was 14 my mother and I took a train ride that included Dallas/Fort Worth to ElPaso. There was a NY couple on the train who never took their noses out of books the whole 2 or 3 days. I'm sure they were ecstatic when flying became more common. About 5 years ago my younger daughter and I took a 2 month trip in her 1987 Toyota extended cab truck with a camper top [?] on back. She had made curtains that were to velcro to the inside. The first time we slept in it, in California, it was so humid that the curtains fell off. Luckily the inside fogged up so that no one could see in. It was fun.
