A quiet spot in the desert, a horse, a burro, a sheep, a goat, pea fowl, genuia fowl, that's my little paradise, surrounded by open space and mountains. You'll find me talking about my days and thoughts of this quiet life.

Cheriki In The Wind:

It is a warm and windy morning and I am out putting out the garbage when I look up and see Cheriki kicking up her heels and running in the wind. First it's kick up your heels and trot about then it's stretch out pull out the stops and run like the wind. I stood quiet, breathless, smiling, like when you watch a horse race and you see  heart. Round and round the pasture, full stretch and can that little horse run. Sage looks at me quizically, ears forward. "What's going on?" but she doesn't follow suit just does a little kick dance and then watches in amazement.  Cheriki like a feather in the wind begins to settle to a graceful trot, softly slowing as we're all caught in the moment of the wind dance.

Beautiful. Thanks for sharing; it brings back fond memories of our Sahara.

The only horse I had was an imaginary one when I was a child. I always enjoyed watching them in a field, unreined and just enjoying running and being free.

I once got to see a herd of wild horses running through the desert just beside I-10 heading south from Phoenix to Casa Grande. I felt so thrilled, so lucky. I kept looking for them everytime I travelled that road but never saw them again, and it seems the wildness of the desert in places is losing out to human encroachment and development.
