Daily observations of my simple life.

About me

User: cactusandquail
A quiet spot in the desert, a horse, a burro, a sheep, a goat, pea fowl, genuia fowl, that's my little paradise, surrounded by open space and mountains. You'll find me talking about my days and thoughts of this quiet life.

Sage. Straight at ya. See her apricot linings around her ears and eyes? Behind her you can see my garage and house.. My little motorhome sits behind a fence so the whole world doesn't have to look at my parked vehicles. I also have my clothes line back there and I've planted a couple orange and gratefruit trees so they are protected from the wind. So far they are doing just fine. I saw a little picture of a way to decorate the back side of your fence.. Put up picture frames and old windows with planters full of plants. That comes next.

I'm figuring it out. Soon to come on my blog more pictures.

Love that face! I dont know what it is about burros, been around horses llamas and every other critter but they really melt my heart. Excellent spread you've got there.

Burro's are very loving animals. They can be curious and mischievous. I always watch her back legs. She did kick at me once and hit my finger when she didn't want to go in her pen.
The bureau of land management does round ups for wild burros and mustangs. They can become over populated and starve. I remember seeing some that were so thin that they hardly looked like they could make it out in the wild. I went to the county fair where they were doing the adoptions. They have auctions. First I picked out Sage and she was a beauty even when she was a baby. After the auction they said anyone who had sucessefully bid on an animal could have a second one for $25. So I picked out Cheriki. Cheriki always has had a very kind eye and she is very careful not to hurt me even though she is shy. Cheriki was three when I adopted her. You don't get to officially adopt an animal for a year and they come out for two checks to see that they are properly cared for before you become the official owner. Cheriki looks after
Sage. I'll tell some stories about them, in the blog
