A quiet spot in the desert, a horse, a burro, a sheep, a goat, pea fowl, genuia fowl, that's my little paradise, surrounded by open space and mountains. You'll find me talking about my days and thoughts of this quiet life.

Too Hot:

I've decided that until it gets down to 100 degrees I'm not going to require anything of myself beyond watering and feeding the animals and the garden. Any housework or cooking I do will be only what I feel like.

What is this 114 in the shade business!  Years ago I remember seeing that Needles or Death Valley were like 112 degrees and thought ,"how awful, how can they stand it." Now I'm experiencing weeks in the summer of over 110 degrees. I hear of temps like 120 - 128 degrees in Vegas or Lake Havasu or Bullhead City. At what temp can you fry and egg?  All I can say is, it sizzles.

I'm up at 5 and spend a couple hours outside watering and making sure the animals have what they need. I go out as the sun sets and spend an hour out doing the same. I hunker down in the house the rest of the day except to go out once or twice to make sure all the animals have water. Right now heaven is hotter than hell.

As long as the electricity stays on. Overtaxed and phew, there goes your cooling system. Some people can't afford the electricity, like a lady I saw on the news. She said she took cold showers. They also have to set up emergency cooling stations for the homeless, they die from the heat.

Those temperatures are awful - poor you and your critters. Sounds like you're managing pretty well. Cold showers helped me when I lived in Orlando one year and our A/C's didn't work too well. Also, we had a small pool and spent a lot of time in it. Made me decide I didn't need to run the A/C's - until I found mold and/or mildew on my clothes and shoes!
